REV. RUN AND WIFE ADOPT BABY GIRL: Miley Justine Simmons to make her ‘Run’s House’ debut in January December 28, 2007

Filed under: Entertainment — Ryann Hayman @ 11:01 am

Reverend Run and his wife Justine Simmons adopted a one-month-old American-born girl in September, according to Us magazine, and have named her Miley Justine Simmons.

The newest addition to the Simmons clan will make her debut on the family’s MTV reality series, “Run’s House,” when the show returns in January.

The couple decided to adopt Miley – now 4 months – soon after the death of their newborn baby Victoria Anne omphalocele, a birth defect in which the infant’s intestine or other abdominal organs stick out of the belly button. The baby died one hour after her birth on Sept. 26th of last year.

Justine said: “People say, ‘You need to mourn,’ and you do, but only a little because the more you mourn, the more you want to mourn.  I would have landed in depression. I wanted a girl really bad, and I knew I wasn’t going to try again.  That could have really messed me up.”

Miley joins biological siblings Russy, Diggy; and half siblings Jo-Jo, Angela and Vanessa, the children of Rev. Run and his ex-wife Valerie Vaughn.

MEL B. AND EX-HUSBAND IN CUSTODY FIGHT: Dad doesn’t want Scary Spice dragging 9-year-old daughter around on Spice Girl tour December 28, 2007

Filed under: Entertainment — Ryann Hayman @ 10:57 am

TMZ.com is reporting that Spice Girl Melanie Brown and her ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar were in a little custody tug-of-war over their almost 9-year-old daughter, Phoenix.

At issue was the singer’s insistence on taking the girl on the road during her current Spice Girl tour. According to the Web site, Gulzar refused to alter his visitation schedule with Brown – the custodial parent – while she travels from city to city.

But Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Robert Schnider has denied Gulzar’s bid to keep Phoenix at home, TMZ reports.

Scary Spice, who is represented by powerhouse attorney Goldie Schon, retains sole legal and physical custody of Phoenix, and Gulzar will have scheduled visitation over the next few months and on the child’s birthday.

Now Omarion Has Released A Statement; Calls Raz B A Liar December 28, 2007

Filed under: Entertainment — Ryann Hayman @ 10:52 am

Omarion has released a statement now with his $.02. I still don’t know who to believe in this whole debacle, but I think that Omarion’s “statement” sounds like a big fat lie. PR drivel. I’d hate to be Chris’ publicist, or anyone affiliated with this whole mess. Their Christmas and New Year’s are officially in the toilet.

NEW YORK, Dec. 26 /PRNewswire/ — Below please find a statement from Omarion regarding the accusations against Chris Stokes made by Demario “Raz B” Thorton and Ricardo Thorton.

“I want to be on the record as saying that “Raz B” Thorton and Ricardo Thorton are lying regarding Chris Stokes. Chris is a father figure to myself, and many others in the industry. He’s guided us, helped raised us and is nothing more than an inspiration and someone I respect to and look up to. I have spent countless hours, days, weeks and months with the man since the age of 5 and have never once seen him behave inappropriately.
He’s married to my aunt and I know this man very well. I stand behind him with no question whatsoever,” said Omarion.

“I have grown up around Chris and this is crazy to me. These people have damaged me, and my reputation and I won’t stand silent and will do all within my means to speak the truth about this matter,” said Omarion.

RAZ-B ON CHRIS STOKES December 28, 2007

Filed under: Entertainment — Ryann Hayman @ 10:49 am

In two new video clips ex-B2K member Raz B airs out cousin/former manager Chris Stokes, alleging everything from molestation to shiesty business and personal practices. Raz’s brother Ricky [who looks like he is getting his weed situation together] also claims that he was forced to take showers with “the other boys.” Heavy, heavy.

I have been saying that something in the milk wasn’t clean about Chris but nooooo . . .

Ah well, I will say that I love the sepia tone of the vids. Somebody please give this man his own reality show on LOGO.

THINGS THEY SAY: SNOOP ON HIS FAMILY December 28, 2007

Filed under: Hip Hip — Ryann Hayman @ 10:44 am

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, rapper Snoop Dogg discusses how the Hollywood life almost made him forget the importance of his family life. Snoop admits that he almost made the wrong decision by filing for divorce from his wife, Shante. Here’s what he had to say.

“I was going to split up with my wife. My wife wasn’t going to split up with me. You know, I was caught up. I was caught up with Hollywood, all the girls and the nightlife. I thought I was the man, and I was willing to give up what I had at home for that,” he says, “until I realized that what I had at home was irreplaceable. So I gave that up to go back home. I just don’t want another man raising my kids. That was the main goal. I had kids with my wife because I wanted to be with my wife. And those three babies are all wanted, and I wanted to be with them.”

BOW WOW UNABLE TO TAKE A JOKE: Omarion justifies partner’s reaction to BET prank; plus, more dates added to Bow’s tour with Chris Brown December 20, 2007

Filed under: Hip Hip — Ryann Hayman @ 5:30 pm

A flash of that hissy fit behavior Bow Wow says led to a cut finger and missed tour dates several weeks ago was on full display in leaked footage of a BET spoof interview that went horribly wrong.

Omarion and Bow Wow were just beginning a joint interview for BET’s “The Black Carpet” when Bow got upset, cut off the interview and stormed off claiming interviewer Touré was being too disrespectful with the questions.

“Do you take moves from people like Chris Brown?” Toure had asked O. Toure also pointed out that Lil Wayne’s chain is bigger than Bow Wow’s, and praised O for being dope in the “Naked” video – which was actually Marcus Houston. Toure then began to yawn during one of O’s answers. But it wasn’t until he checked Bow Wow for using his phone during the interview that the young rapper freaked out.

“You pay my bills, bruh? Real talk. …Don’t ask this man is he taking moves from Chris Brown, and don’t ask no other disrespectful-ass, stupid-ass questions,” Bow Wow said to Toure as he got up to leave. “You got a problem with it you can holler at me.” [See video footage below.]

What Bow Wow didn’t know was that Toure’s questions and comments were all part of a BET prank that was discussed with the pair’s label beforehand. The interview was to be used for an upcoming “Punk’d”-style show called “Hell Interview.”

MTV caught up with Omarion Tuesday to get his take on the whole prank gone awry. The singer says there are no grudges, but he still has Bow’s back and wishes that people would take them more seriously.

“Everything is good, man,” he said. “You know how it is, sometimes when you’re coming up in the game and you as young as we have been, sometimes people think they can — not necessarily push us around, but they feel they can play with us like that. If it had been 50 Cent or Game or any other man who would have stepped up in that interview, it would have went a lot differently. We want our respect, man. We want our respect as men. You don’t just throw a man in a spoof interview and disrespect him. You have to respectfully talk to him. We didn’t know it was a spoof, but I’m a little bit different when we handle situations. I’m very mild-tempered. I like to think about what I do before I do it. Bow gets upset.”

Their joint LP, “Face Off,” is in stores now.

And speaking of Chris Brown, Bow Wow is currently a co-headliner on the crooner’s “Ford Presents Up Close & Personal Holiday Exclusive Tour,” which has just announced the addition of more than a dozen dates, including a third show in Universal City, CA and a second performance at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The outing is now scheduled to wrap Feb. 2 in Honolulu, HI. An updated itinerary is listed below the video of Bow Wow’s temper tantrum.

R. KELLY MISSES COURT DUE TO TOUR BUS DRAMA: Judge threatens arrest warrant after sleepy drivers pulled off the road December 20, 2007

Filed under: Entertainment, General News — Ryann Hayman @ 5:28 pm

R. Kelly was threatened with an arrest warrant yesterday after he missed a court date in Chicago, reportedly due to his tour buses being ordered off the road for eight hours in Utah.

According to the Associated Press, Kelly’s attorney, Ed Genson, told Judge Vincent Gaughan that the artist was not present because his tour bus was stopped by Utah State Police on its journey from a concert date in Sacramento, Calif., to Chicago.

Genson said the four buses were pulled over after police clocked them going 100 mph. The investigating trooper then noticed that the drivers seemed to be fatigued. The officer requested to see the buses’ log books and found they didn’t document enough rest time for the driver. Police then ordered the bus to stop for eight hours, Genson said.

Cook County prosecutors asked the judge to issue the bench warrant anyway, saying the court had already been generous in allowing him to go on tour.

“The very least he could do is be here for his appointed court date,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Shauna Boliker.

The judge entered the arrest warrant for Kelly, but put it on hold until this morning, when he ordered the singer to appear in court. At today’s rescheduled hearing, Gaughan is expected to set a trial date in the case, which has been pending since 2002.

MICHAEL BAISDEN — BAD BOY MAKES GOOD: Radio and TV host grows beyond ‘Love Lust & Lies.’ December 19, 2007

Filed under: General News — Ryann Hayman @ 5:32 pm

Though he calls himself the “Bad Boy of Radio,” radio jock Michael Baisden is doing the world some good.

Armed with an aggressive, yet encouraging voice, Baisden has taken syndicated radio by storm with “The Michael Baisden Show” broadcast in over 50 markets nationwide since 2005, and this year, the host took his show to the small screen airwaves with his Saturday night TVone show “Baisden After Dark.”

Just about eight years earlier in 2000, Baisden was pitching a different television program called “Talk or Walk,” complementing his book “God’s Gift to Women.” At that time, he had no plans or ambitions to become a radio host, but those around him had a different plan. The program director and a marketing executive at a station in Greensboro, NC urged Baisden to take his comments to the mic.

“They let me on the show. I did it from my home in Miami at the time,” he said. “Then KISS FM [New York] had an opening on Sunday night between 9 and 10. So I was doing both those shows and then the opportunity to do the [long-form] show on KISS FM came and it’s been non-stop ever since. Interestingly, I really wasn’t looking to get into radio. I wanted to try it; to prove to myself that I could do it, and I started doing it and realized it was just a lot of fun.”

It must have been quite enjoyable at that since Baisden took the gig just for the challenge, experience, and exposure. At this point, his time on radio was without pay.

“I’m a brother from the Southside of Chicago, so I know all about the hustle. I decided that if I was going to be in it, I wanted to be the best at it. I put all my creative energies in it and all of my time. I sacrificed the money. Originally, I was losing money doing this. I was #1 in New York without a paycheck,” he admitted. “I knew that they were giving me a shot. I got on the air, I decided to move to New York to give my all to it and it worked out. From there, about a year later, I realized I couldn’t afford to do local radio at the money they were paying me.”

And at this point, Baisden certainly had the leverage, so the station went to ABC for more money to keep Baisden on, and the rest is history. Now he has one of the most popular radio talk shows, and a TV show growing in popularity.

Baisden’s show was originally subtitled “Love, Lost, & Lies,” as his topics initially ran the relationship gamut. But just as he has evolved, so has his show.

“That was the concept, originally. That was the title of my seminars,” he explained, “but now it is ‘The Michael Baisden Show.’ The idea was just to focus on relationships, but since we’ve moved so far beyond that, I’ve actually told ABC to stop using that subtitle because it really doesn’t apply anymore.”

Since, Baisden hasn’t done much writing. He admits he can only focus his creative energy into one project at a time, but that’s not entirely true. After all, he’s not just a radio host. In addition to his pursuit of TV time, Baisden has become something of an activist. It was his concern and campaign that brought worldwide attention to the controversy of the Jena 6 case.

“Sometimes when the call comes, you have the choice to step up and answer it or stay where you are, he said. “I’m a person that likes to evolve and I like to challenge myself. And regarding the Jena 6, I didn’t feel like there was much of an option. This had to be done, I didn’t think I could trust anyone else to do it, so I did it.’

Baisden explained that he located the story on his website’s “Hot News” section, where people can post on the message board.

“I saw it, I couldn’t believe the story, we started making phone calls, and from that day, September 4th, until the day of that march we were on the air everyday, every hour making sure that people did not ignore it.”

His assessment of the situation and the outcome of the campaign are very positive, and many attribute the community mobilization to Baisden and his radio show.

“I feel like we have a victory. We demonstrated that we can come together … and coming together is very important,’ he said. “The boys are not spending 20 years in prison – their charges have been lessened. And we’ve got our eye on the District Attorney still to this day to make sure he’s not going to continue to do this. And educating people about the law and making people understand the power that the District Attorney has.”

However, the event still has a bit of controversy following it. Some, including Glen Ford, a writer/newsman/activist, have been very critical of Baisden’s Jena 6 campaign. In his “Black Agenda Report” posted on seeingblack.com, Ford accused Baisden of “viciously slandering” James Rucker and his organization Color of Change that also initiated a fundraising campaign for the Jena 6 legal fund. Ford said that Baisden encouraged people to send money only to him to assist in the legal defense, implying that Color of Change was not contributing the money to the cause.

“I don’t even have any comment on it,” Baisden told EUR’s Lee Bailey of the accusations. “As far as we’re concerned it’s resolved. Like Rev. Al Sharpton said, ‘They only chase the guy who has the ball.’ So, I understand when you’re in front, you’re going to be a target. So, I have no problem with that. If they have any questions about our fundraising, all they need to do is make a phone call.”

Indeed, Baisden has moved on and explained that the show itself is moving on, growing and taking on other important issues of the day.

“We’re going to focus a lot of our attention on kids and families, which is where we know the problem really lies. That’s the most important thing for me right now – the kids,” he said. “I’ve realized through that experience that that is the one thing you can count on us coming together for 100% of the time – is our kids. There are so many more important things to focus on than things that are negative. And I’m overwhelmed with the opportunity we have with a national radio show to have an impact.’
