SOLANGE COPS ATTITUDE OVER NOTHING: Singer complains to news anchor about Jay-Z question that was never asked August 28, 2008

Solange Knowles tried to check a Las Vegas news anchor for a Jay-Z-related question during their interview – only the question was never asked.

Beyonce’s little sister was appearing via satellite on KVVU to promote her new album “Sol Angel & the Hadley Street Dreams.” During a commercial break, her rep was asked if the reporter could mention Solange’s brother-in-law Jay-Z’s newly-closed 40/40 club in Las Vegas. Solange’s rep said absolutely not, and questions were to focus solely on her music.

The station agreed and the interview began after the break. The reporter gave her a cheery welcome, after which Solange proceeded to complain – on live TV – about how “unprofessional” the woman was to begin the segment “talking about my family and my brother-in-law’s establishment.”

The reporter looked confused, looked at her notes, glanced off camera and said, “Okay, well we do apologize… ” An anchor off stage quickly interrupted: “That wasn’t live, Solange, that wasn’t on TV.”

Solange said, “Okay,” and the interview continued. Awkwardly.

Jay-Z and a 12-piece band will perform at the historic Hollywood Palladium when the newly-renovated venue on Sunset Blvd. reopens its doors on Oct. 15, reports Billboard.

The Palladium’s enhancements include an overhaul of the interior and exterior, a new dance floor, expanded concessions, upgraded restrooms and improvements to the stage infrastructure.

The 4,000-capacity venue, which has been closed since last April, first opened in 1940 with a concert by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra. Over the years it has hosted such acts as the Rolling Stones, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, the Who, the Police, Rod Stewart, Metallica, the Clash, the Pixies, No Doubt, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Public Enemy.

“Just as Frank ushered in a golden era, I hope this opening will mark the beginning of a resurgence in generation-defining live music,” Jay-Z said in a statement.

Tickets for the Jay-Z concert go on sale Sept. 5 via livenation.com. Live Nation holds a long-term lease to operate, manage and exclusively book the Hollywood Palladium. Jay-Z is signed to a long-term, multi-rights deal with Live Nation.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z’s troubled 40/40 Club in Las Vegas has finally expired.

Less than nine months after its big New Year’s Eve opening, the venue located in the Palazzo has been sold for an undisclosed amount, reports E! Online.  The hotel is reportedly planning to convert the space into a sports bar.

Among its myriad of problems, the club struggled to make its January 2008 opening after reportedly failing inspection. Disgruntled employees who were fired or resigned also complained to local media shortly after its opening.

The mogul, whose real name is Shawn Carter, still plans to open 40/40 Clubs in Chicago, Tokyo and Macau.

Las Vegas police said they caught Marion “Suge” Knight in the act of assaulting his girlfriend Wednesday morning and promptly threw him in jail.

According to the Associated Press, police responded to a domestic violence call early yesterday on a busy street near the Las Vegas Strip and found the Death Row Records mogul standing over his longtime girlfriend with the knife in his hand.

“He did not stab her,” said Officer Jacinto Rivera, a department spokesman. However, he was arrested at about 6:40 a.m. and booked Wednesday into the Clark County jail on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and domestic violence.

Police did not release the identity of the woman, who told officers she was Knight’s girlfriend of three years. The woman was treated at a hospital for minor injuries, according to Rivera.

Police said Knight and the woman argued in the car while Knight was driving before he allegedly punched her in the head.

“The victim purposely grabbed the steering wheel and caused the vehicle to hit the curb,” police said in a statement. Police said the woman tried to run away, but Knight caught her.

Knight had the drugs Ecstasy and hydrocodone when he was arrested, police said. Rivera said Knight would be held at the jail for at least 12 hours on the domestic violence charge.

BILL CLINTON SAYS OBAMA IS THE MAN!: Former prez put the past behind and heartily backs Democratic nominee; Party unification is complete August 28, 2008

Former President Bill Clinton offered hearty and unqualified praise for Barack Obama on Wednesday, saying the man who crushed his wife’s White House dream was ready to lead America and restore U.S. global leadership.

Clinton said Obama, who defeated Hillary Clinton in a bitter struggle for the Democratic nomination, could lead the United States past the divisions and strife of the last eight years of Republican leadership under President George W. Bush.

“Everything I learned in my eight years as president and in the work I’ve done since, in America and across the globe, has convinced me that Barack Obama is the man for this job,” Clinton told a crowd of Democrats waving American flags.

“Barack Obama is ready to lead America and restore American leadership in the world,” he said, directly addressing the attacks on Obama by Republican presidential rival John McCain. “Barack Obama is ready to be president of the United States.”

Clinton, one of the party’s biggest stars, had been a loose cannon on the campaign trail during his wife’s primary battle, frequently straying off message to level angry complaints about Obama.

But he was a loyal team player on Wednesday, drawing a comparison between the criticism he heard during his run for the presidency in 1992 and the Republican attacks on Obama ahead of the November 4 election.

“We prevailed in a campaign in which the Republicans said I was too young and too inexperienced to be commander in chief,” Clinton said, repeating a criticism his wife also leveled at Obama during the primaries.

“Sound familiar? It didn’t work in 1992, because we were on the right side of history. And it won’t work in 2008, because Barack Obama is on the right side of history,” he said.

Bill Clinton’s speech was the last act in a swirling drama that overshadowed the first few days of the convention, as the lingering resentments of some of Hillary Clinton’s supporters threatened to boil over on the floor.

Hillary Clinton put an end to that threat with an impassioned call for party unity on Tuesday and an emotional call for Obama’s nomination by acclamation during a roll call on Wednesday.

She watched her husband’s speech from a box in the balcony of the convention hall, waving American flags along with hundreds of other delegates. Bill Clinton called her speech on Tuesday “magnificent.”

IT’S OFFICIAL AND HISTORICAL: Barack Obama nominated as Democrat’s presidential candidate August 28, 2008

To shouts of “Yes we can,” Democrats nominated Barack Obama on Wednesday as their presidential candidate in a historic first for a black American, sending him into battle against Republican John McCain.

In an emotional moment of unity, Obama’s one-time opponent, Sen. Hillary Clinton, strode onto the floor of the party’s national convention during a roll call of the states and formally asked Democratic delegates to suspend their count and approve his nomination by acclamation.

“With eyes firmly fixed on the future, in the spirit of unity, with the goal of victory, with faith in our party and our country, let’s declare together in one voice right here, right now, that Barack Obama is our candidate and he will be our president,” she said to roars of approval inside the packed convention hall.

“I move Senator Barack Obama of Illinois be selected by the convention by acclamation as the nominee of the Democratic Party,” she said, a request quickly accepted by the convention’s presiding official, House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.

When Pelosi pounded a gavel to declare Obama the nominee, delegates held hands together up high, danced and swayed back and forth to the song “Love Train” in celebration of the moment.

“Yes we can,” the crowd chanted. “Obama!”

ALSO LAST NIGHT AT THE DNC: Biden accepts nomination, hails Obama, rips McCain

*Veteran Sen. Joe Biden accepted the Democratic vice presidential nomination on Wednesday and hailed running mate Barack Obama as a wise leader who will take the United States in a new direction and out of the Iraq war.

“Since I’ve never been called a man of few words, let me say this simply as I can: Yes. Yes, I accept your nomination to run and serve with Barack Obama, the next president of the United States,” declared Biden, who’s been ridiculed for long-winded speeches during his 35 years in Congress.

Biden heaped praise on the 47-year-old, first-term senator, who will accept the party’s nomination as presidential candidate in a speech in Denver on Thursday, as an inspirational force.

“He has tapped into the oldest American belief of all. We don’t have to accept the situation we cannot bear. We have the power to change it,” said Biden, 65.

At the end of his remarks, Obama made a surprise appearance on stage to thunderous applause. He embraced Biden and said he was proud to have Biden, who ran unsuccessfully against him in the Democratic primaries, on his team.

Biden was formally nominated by acclamation. He and Obama will face Republican candidate John McCain, who has yet to announce his pick for No. 2, in the November 4 election.

TMZ.com is reporting that Lil Wayne has missed another court date citing “medical reasons.”

Earlier this month, the rapper failed to appear at a New York hearing claiming his doctor forbade him from flying. Weezy’s physician in Miami later said that his patient had a serious dental emergency, so the court date was rescheduled for sometime in September.

On Tuesday, Lil Wayne missed a court appearance in Yuma, Ariz., claiming he was under doctor’s orders not to fly. The tabloid Web site says the medical condition, again, involves his teeth.
