JHud

Surprise! Less than a year after they began dating, Jennifer Hudson and David “Punk” Otunga are engaged. He popped the question with a Neil Lane diamond ring on her 27th birthday.

“I can confirm that Jennifer got engaged to her boyfriend David on Friday night in L.A.” her rep told People.

Jennifer appears to flaunt the sparkler in this photo, taken at a tribute to Patti LaBelle on Saturday at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

You didn’t really think J-Hud would go back to her longtime boo James Peyton, did you? Although she and Punk, both from Chicago, keep a low profile together, at least he should be accustomed to being in the spotlight enough where he can handle a rising star like J-Hud. Her self-titled debut solo album drops Sept. 30, and her next film, “The Secret Life of Bees,” opens on Oct. 17.

Congrats to the lovebirds! Even if it seems pretty sudden.

Swizz Beatz: Alicia Keys Not A Homewrecker September 15, 2008

Alicia and Swizz

The Alicia Keys-Swizz Beatz romance is no secret but Swizz says the singer didn’t come between him and his estranged wife Mashonda. The soon-to-be ex has had enough and thinks Alicia has now gone too far. This is getting ugly.

Swizz told Usmagazine.com that Alicia is not to blame for the collapse of his marriage.

“I can no longer ignore the harmful rumors, that my friend Alicia Keys is in any way linked to my marital circumstances or to the decision that [my wife] Mashonda and I have made to separate.”

“I am disappointed that some have chosen to try and tarnish Alicia’s reputation by irresponsibly implicating her in a situation that she has absolutely nothing to do with.”

“This experience has been one of the most difficult times in my life, and as was stated when we announced our separation several months ago, I ask that you continue to respect my privacy in dealing with this personal matter.”

Well, this matter is anything but private. Especially after today’s Rush & Molloy column, which ran the headline, “Alicia is the Ms. in the Swizz Beatz split.”

According to the column:

Alicia Keys could be named as “the other woman” in the divorce of hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz and R&B singer Mashonda, sources tell us. Swizz has been brushing off rumors that Grammy-winner Alicia had anything to do with his split from Mashonda, his wife of almost five years and mother of his 1-year-old son, Kasseem Dean Jr.

But Mashonda isn’t buying it. Last week, she was incensed when she heard about the birthday party Alicia threw for Swizz at midtown’s Louis Vuitton store, where guests included Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Robin Thicke.

“Alicia introduced Swizz as ‘The man of the hour and my boo,’” says an insider. “Mashonda has had enough. She put her career on hold to be a wife and mother. She’s tired of pretending she’s deaf, dumb and blind to what’s going on. She can’t believe how disrespectful Alicia is being.”

Word that Swizz and Mashonda were separating came in April in a statement issued by a rep for the couple.

A friend of Mashonda argues, “That was his announcement. She got sucked into it. She thought they were trying to put their marriage back together. Meanwhile, he’s apparently been telling Alicia that his marriage was over.”

Though he accompanied Alicia on her European tour last summer, Swizz has continued to live, off and on, with Mashonda and Kasseem Jr. at their Westchester mansion, says a friend.

Mashonda is said to have exploded when she found a flirty e-mail from Alicia on Swizz’s BlackBerry. According to sources, she fired back a reply, reminding the singer he was still her husband.

Mashonda has now hired powerhouse matrimonial lawyer Bernard Clair.

“This could have been handled quietly,” said a friend. “But now Mashonda has taken the gloves off.”

Clair declined to comment. Keys’ rep didn’t return a call.

A friend of Swizz said, “His relationship with Alicia began after their separation. He hasn’t kept it a secret. He still has great love for Mashonda and has promised to take care of her and their son and support her career.”

This Air Jordan Countdown Pack is set to be released on September 25th at select Air Jordan accounts. This pack features the Air Jordan I and the Air Jordan XX2.

The colorways are quite simple, using a black and white makeup without the traditional Chicago Bulls red. If you are a fan of the shoe that started it all, the simple Air Jordan 1 in this pack is a good choice. Via Hypebeast.

Shattered Air Force Supremes September 15, 2008

Diversitile Custom Clothing premiered the Shattered Supremes ahead of the release of its new clothing line. These photos were found on Diversitile’s Customsnkr.com blog linked here and show the designer’s eye for detail. If these shoes are a preview of Diversitile’s new line, I cannot wait to see the designer’s new work.

These Air Force Supremes start out simple with a turquoise/brown colorway. These two colors may not seem like a natural combination but I liked the unusual look of turquoise wrapping around brown toe boxes. The real magic begins when you look at the middle panel.

Diversitile used a broken glass design behind the Nike swoosh that embraces the beauty of colorful chaos. The shattered slices of color extend from the middle of the Nike swoosh up through the eyelets. The overall effect is a delightful mess that is difficult to look away from after a few moments.

I am eager to see what Diversitile has in mind for the clothing company’s upcoming line. I hope we see more of the off-kilter colors and designs featured on the Shattered Supremes.

Which Part Of The Lie Hurts The Most? September 15, 2008

Filed under: Romance — Ryann Hayman @ 3:14 pm

 Written by: The Fly Guy

Don’t worry; I haven’t forgotten about the list of lies that women tell men. I’m actually working on that list as we speak. But after reading some of the responses from the “Lies That Men Tell” post from a couple of days ago, I wanted to ask you something. Which part do you hate more: The fact that someone lied to you, or the fact that you found out about it?

Before you answer that question, think long and hard about it, as it’s not as easy to answer as you might think. So what’s it going to be?

The lie itself….
or
The hurt and anger caused by finding out about the lie…..

Inquiring minds want to know.

Jermaine Dupri is being sued by a woman who claims he recorded their personal phone call for use in a song without her permission. Aika Kendrick is seeking $250,000 for the use of her vocals, according to TMZ.com. Daz Dillinger and Virgin Records are also named in the suit.

*KOCH Records announces the release of “The Villain,” the new album by Detroit rapper Trick Trick. The set features Eminem, Kid Rock, Ice Cube, Guilty Simpson, Paradime, Diezel, Esham, and Royce da 5′9. The set’s lead single is “Let It Fly” ft/ Ice Cube.  Trick Trick handled most of the production duties, while Enimem produced three tracks and Dr. Dre produced one song. The album also includes “Together Forever,” a Run DMC remake featuring the late Proof, Kid Rock, and Detroit veteran Esham.

*Music World/Columbia Records will release “Unexpected,” the new solo album from Michelle Williams, on Tuesday, Oct. 7. So one of my options is law enforcement.” O’Neal – who was drafted by the Orlando Magic but has since played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns – went through training with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Reserve Academy before becoming a reserve officer with the L.A. Port Police.

In July, he was accused of driving under the influence, marijuana possession and possession of a weapon by a felon. Because of the offenses, he must now serve the remaining year left on his three and a half year sentence, for assault.

LIL WAYNE’S LIFE STORY COMING TO DVD September 15, 2008

A documentary chronicling the chaotic professional and private life of Lil Wayne is coming to DVD on Sept. 23.

The film, titled “The Nino Brown Story,” will include uncensored footage following the rapper’s travels throughout major U.S. cities such as Newark, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and his native New Orleans, reports Allhiphop.com.

The documentary is a reference to Wayne’s constant lyrical references to the 1991 film “New Jack City,” which starred Wesley Snipes as drug kingpin Nino Brown and followed Brown’s crew, the “Cash Money Brothers.” The latter inspired Lil Wayne affiliates Baby and Slim Williams to name their label Cash Money Records.

“The Nino Brown Story” will also include appearances from Kanye West, Jay-Z, Juelz Santana, Jae Millz, Freekey Zekey and Baby. The “I Run This” video shoot, Wayne’s Newark, NJ performance, and unreleased details about his NYC arrest have been added as special features.
