Fat Joe is working on his next album, but the Bronx-born MC can’t help but dote on Lil Wayne’s next LP.
Joe told MTV News: “Lil Wayne, don’t bet against him right now!” he said. “Don’t bet against this guy ever right now. He calls me in the middle of the night: ‘Come to the studio.’ I get there, this n—a pressed play, and everything he played was super-duper phenomenal, number-one [smash]. He’s singing, ‘So I went to get her in my spaceship.’ Craziest thing you ever heard in your life.”
The Miami transplant said he the Carter comparisons between Jay-Z and Lil Wayne are fine, but after Tha Carter IV drops, Fat Joe said there won’t be any MC to properly pit against Weezy.
“They compared him a lot to Jay-Z, and you could see where he was influenced,” Joe explained. “But after this next album — I’m not saying he’s the best rapper of all time, [but] you can’t compare him to any rapper in the world. Because no rapper has done what he’s about to do. That’s crazy! He’s a rock star, man. Hit mania!”
Joe even went as far as to say rock bands won’t be able to keep up with Wayne.
No date has been set for either Wayne’s next album, or Joe’s.
Fat Joe said he’s set to work with Akon, Ron Browz, and Infamous on his next album.
Memph Bleek is…a brand?
According to Jay-Z’s understudy, that’s exactly what he is.
In an interview with HipHopGame.TV, Memphis Bleek defended his decision to appear in a commercial for Garnier, a shampoo line.
“That’s branding yourself,” Bleek explained. “Making yourself into a brand. That’s what that’s called, I don’t think niggas understand that.
“You get get off the plane in Ireland and that product will be on the shelf,” he continued. “When you see that product here, you see that there. And you get a hell of a check. They gave me a hell of a check to fuck with the bitches.”
In the clip, a fictitious girl group sings about the shampoo and toward the end of the clip Bleek appears rapping a guest verse.
The stepfather to rap icon’s 2Pac, Mutulu Shakur, will be featured on the new season of BET’s breakout hit, “American Gangster.”
The elder Shakur has spent the past 25 years in federal prison after being convicted for his part in concocting a bank truck robbery that left three dead. He was also implicated in the plot to help his sister Assata Shakur escape prison, which enabled her to receive political asylum in Cuba.
In addition to Shakur, the FBI’s Cointelpro initiative, Nicky Barnes cohort Guy Fisher, and Larry Davis will also be profiled.
BET’s “American Gangster” kicked off with a series of interview subjects ranging from Crips founder Stanley “Tookie” Williams to “Freeway” Ricky Ross.
The new season begins October 23 with an episode on Larry Davis.
Rick Ross has been added as a headlining performer for the Give Back Concert Benefit for The Dr. Donda West Foundation, formerly known as The Kanye West Foundation.
The concert, also done in partnership with the Live to Give Campaign, will take place on Nov. 4 at Ibiza in Washington, D.C. and will feature election night coverage and a number of surprise guests, with Ross being the first celebrity confirmed, reports allhiphop.com.
As previously reported, The Dr. Donda West Foundation’s Give Back Concert Benefit kicks off with a meet and greet with Washington Wizards’ Antawn Jamison available only for pre-sale ticket purchasers.
General admission is $85.00 with all proceeds going to the Dr. Donda West Foundation, Rick Ross Charities, and the Antawn Jamison Foundation.
Sources told AllHipHop.com that Kanye West will be overseas touring on election night, but attendees will be able to view an exclusive video tribute he taped, for private viewing only.
Reality show star Reverend Run has confirmed what many folks believed about the so-called beef between 50 Cent and Kanye West last year – it was a publicity stunt designed to sell records.
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, vowed to quit the music business if his album “Curtis” lost out in the charts to West’s “Graduation,” both released on Sept. 11, 2007.
Kanye won the sales battle, only to be hit with another challenge by 50 Cent to participate in a second sales race this year with their respective new albums. At a recent concert, 50 Cent even mocked West’s current single “Love Lockdown” and G-Unit made fun of West’s headline-making arrest at LAX airport for smashing a photographer’s camera equipment.
But the bickering between the pair was just a ploy to sell more records, according to Rev. Run.
“They are not really fighting. They are friends,” the former Run DMC star tells WENN. “That was just a publicity thing for their albums. I think they are really close and nice to each other. That was just a first week sales battle.”
British rapper M.I.A., whose sampled voice is the chorus of radio’s hottest single “Swagga Like Us,” has confirmed that she is pregnant with her first child.
“I’m creating a baby,” the 31-year-old singer told Pitchfork Media.
The news follows success of her biggest single to date, “Paper Planes,” which received a sales boost with its presence in the trailer for “Pineapple Express.”
“When I found out I was pregnant and ‘Paper Planes’ was in the iTunes top 10, it seemed like the whole world was reshuffled in one week, and all my plans went out the window,” the artist said. “I’ve got two kids, that’s what it feels like. And that’s the lesson – you can’t make plans.”
She and fiancé Ben Brewer, lead singer and guitarist of The Exit, kept the due date and the baby’s sex a secret, but they made sure their fans knew they are serious about having a child.
“I got engaged first, then I got pregnant, kids,” M.I.A. said.
“Swagga Like Us,” featuring Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z and T.I., is crafted around M.I.A.’s line “no one on the corner has swagger like us” from “Paper Planes.” It was released last month as the first single from Jay-Z’s 11th studio album “The Blueprint 3″ and also appears on T.I.’s sixth studio album, “Paper Trail.”
Kim Kardashian said she was only joking when she referred to her boyfriend Reggie Bush as “hubby” in a recent post on her Web site.
The term sent rumors flying of a secret marriage between the socialite and the New Orleans Saints running back.
But she clarified to WENN: “I said hubby as a joke. … He said, ‘Don’t use boyfriend, it’s so typical.’ He said, ‘Write hubby or baby.’ Everyone thought I was married.”
Kim K. does admit that she’s hoping to get a marriage proposal from Reggie sometime in the near future: “We definitely make it work. … This is the first relationship I’ve been in with no trust issues.”
