IS J.LO’S MARRIAGE IN TROUBLE? December 22, 2008

A rep for singer Marc Anthony is denying a flurry of rumors suggesting his marriage to Jennifer Lopez is at a “breaking point,” as one gossip rag put it.

Reports of trouble in paradise began when Us magazine posted a story online this week noting that J.Lo attended a movie premiere without her 8-carat diamond engagement ring, her wedding band – or, for that matter, her husband.

The story came in the wake of reports earlier this month that Anthony was spotted flirting with a woman at two New York City nightspots. The singer was also reportedly seen in Las Vegas this month without his wedding band.

But Anthony’s rep said Wednesday that reports of a rough patch between the two are false.

“They are doing great,” his spokeswoman Blanca Lasalle told Newsday. “Any comments implying that they are having problems and that Marc behaved in a questionable manner while out with friends last week are absolutely false.”

A spokeswoman for Lopez co-signed, stating of the couple: “They are fine.”

Us magazine’s story quoted a “close pal of Anthony’s” who claimed “He’s very, very controlling of her. The skirts aren’t as short. You don’t see so much of that booty anymore.”

The magazine also reported that Anthony picks out Lopez’s clothes and keeps tabs on her phone calls. But Lopez – who once claimed she “loved getting his opinions” – has become less interested in his approval since the birth of their twins, Max and Emme, the magazine said.

“She walks in from work, washes her hands and grabs the babies,” a “longtime friend” told Us. “With him, it’s almost like, ‘Ugh, they’re crying again?’”

Singer/actor Jennifer Lopez and her Nuyorican Productions company signed a first-look deal with Universal Media Studios to develop a slate of new TV programs, reports Variety.

The exclusive two-year pact was announced Monday by Universal Media Studios co-chairman Ben Silverman.

The relationship reunites Lopez with NBC, where she headlined a concert special earlier this decade. Lopez, who runs Nuyorican with producing partner Simon Fields, also developed a sitcom at NBC based on her experiences growing up in the Bronx and guest starred several times on “Will & Grace.”

Under Lopez and Fields, Nuyorican has been busy expanding its TV development, having sold a small screen version of the Lopez feature “Maid in Manhattan” to ABC, as well as the project “Amigas” to Disney Channel.

More recently, Lopez sold a show to TLC that was set to chronicle her life as she launched a fragrance. That project, developed under the cable network’s previous administration, is not moving forward as a series but may still be in the works as a special.

In other J.Lo news, Natalie Portman has replaced the actress in the upcoming film “Love and Other Impossible Pursuits,” a Don Roos-directed adaptation of an Ayelet Waldman novel. David Molner, managing director of Screen Capital Intl. and chairman of Incentive Filmed Entertainment, said Portman’s signing salvages a film that was thrown into jeopardy when Lopez abruptly dropped out.

The story revolves around a young woman who finds the key to recovering her marriage in her relationship with her precocious stepson. The film will begin shooting in Manhattan on Nov. 10.

Life couldn’t be more different for Jennifer Lopez since the February birth of their boy and girl, the singer and husband Marc Anthony admit.

“We’re just lucky,” Anthony, 40, tells PEOPLE. “Our life is designed around the twins. Everything smells better, it tastes better, it even feels better on a minute-to-minute basis. We should just enjoy this.”

The couple were arm in arm at Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars Event at Cipriani Wall Street in New York Thursday night. Lopez and Prince presented the award to Donatella Versace.

It was a Versace palm-leaf dress that Lopez famously wore to the Grammys in 2000, but the new mom and her husband were at odds over whether she’d slip into a similar outfit these days.

“For me, it was one of the eye-opening moments of what a dress could actually do,” Lopez, 39, tells PEOPLE. “And I was on the cover of the paper the next day, because of that Versace dress. No, I’d wear it [now].”

“Maybe as a wife, she wouldn’t,” Anthony interjected, as his spouse laughed.

J.LO’S RENEWAL OF VOWS NOT SO SUDDEN? October 15, 2008

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the sudden renewal of vows between Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony was not as spur-of-the-moment as they have led folks believe.

“Apparently Lopez heard a couple of celebrity magazines were chasing a ’splitsville’ story, and the renewal of vows seemed like a good antidote to those tales,” reports Sun-Times columnist Bill Zwecker.

He added: “By the way, several very good sources close to the couple laugh off those breakup rumors — agreeing with a longtime J. Lo associate who said Monday, ‘This is one couple whose marriage is just fine — trust me. They are very happy together.’”

Zwecker points out that Anthony’s claims of the nuptials taking place on the fly following a light night gambling spree contradicts reports that his friend and witness, Carlos Beltran of the New York Mets, had specially-engraved rings at the ready Sunday – both for him and his wife Jessica (who also renewed their vows) and Anthony and J.Lo.

More than four years after saying “I do”, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony secretly renewed their vows in Las Vegas early Sunday morning, PEOPLE has learned.

Witnessed by two friends, the duo renewed the vows at Caesars Palace’s Forum Tower Penthouse at 3:15 a.m. Sunday after a night at Pure Nightclub, a rep for the hotel confirmed to PEOPLE. The service was officiated by Rev. Steven Smith.

“It was totally a spur of the moment thing,” a source said. “They decided around 12:30 in the morning that they wanted to do it and started calling for ministers.”

The renewal ceremony comes after the couple spent the previous evening club-hopping in Las Vegas and taking in a show. Most in the city believed the couple was in the city to celebrate Anthony’s birthday from last month.

“(Marc) said they were in town for his birthday and they wanted to celebrate,” said a source who talked to the couple.

On Friday, the couple headed to LAX Nightclub and The Bank after checking out Criss Angel’s new Cirque Du Soleil show Believe – all under the guise the couple was in town celebrating Anthony’s birthday from last month.

SCRAPPED J.LO ARTICLE ENDS UP ON WEB October 9, 2008

A profile of Jennifer Lopez written by reporter Kevin Sessums for Elle magazine was reportedly “much too personal” for the publication and was  subsequently scrapped in favor of a more flattering profile written by Peter Rubin, at the request of J.Lo’s reps.

However, the original Sessums article lives on thanks to Tina Brown, who posted it ib her Web site, The Daily Beast,” reports the New York Post.

According to Page Six, “Elle’s article flatteringly focuses on Lopez as a fashion icon. But Sessums describes a flu-ridden Lopez: ‘Her unwashed hair is pulled severely back and there’s a halo of frizz around the crown of her head.’”

The singer-actress also told Sessums she doesn’t breast-feed her newborn twins, is willing to put the kids in Scientology classes, and said she had “a kind of nervous breakdown” while filming the 2002 film “Enough.”

Lopez explained: “There were no signs leading up to it. You really don’t know what’s happening at first. I was going, ‘what’s going on?’ It was about five in the afternoon in my trailer and I just sat there. I remember telling my assistant at the time – Arlene – to go get the director Michael Apted and I asked if I could go home because I was feeling so, so sick and weird.  I kept saying, ‘I’m not weak, I’m not weak.’ It’s funny what tricks your mind play on you. I just didn’t want people to think I was falling apart. But when I look back on it now it’s so odd to me that those are the words I chose to say: I am not weak.

The doctor told me to go back to work on Monday after a weekend of sleeping because if I waited longer that I would only get more panicked about working. So that’s what I did. I’ve still never been to a shrink. I’m not a shrinky person.”

A rep for Lopez told Page Six of Sessums’ interview appearing on The Daily Beast: “We’re very unhappy about it, and think it was poor judgment on his part. As long as we have represented Jennifer, we have never heard her refer to having a breakdown of any sort.”

Jennifer Lopez is taking another stab at series television as an executive producer on “Maid in Manhattan,” a new hour-long comedy-drama for ABC based on her hit 2002 romantic comedy.

The film starred Lopez as a struggling single mom from the Bronx who worked as a maid at a posh Manhattan hotel. She is courted by a politician guest (Ralph Fiennes) who mistakes her for a wealthy socialite.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the TV version will star a young Latina from the Bronx working at a Manhattan hotel who tries to make it in the world. But the series will focus mostly on her relationships with co-workers.

Lopez, a Bronx native, has been very involved, providing “a fountain of ideas,” said Chade Hodge, who will write the script for the pilot. “She will be very integral to the pilot and series,” he said.

This will mark the second time ABC has attempted to adapt “Maid,” following a script developed with a different writer during the 2004-05 development season.

Lopez’s last TV project, UPN’s “South Beach,” was cancelled eight episodes into its first season in 2006.

NO DEPOSITION FOR J.LO: Woman suing Diddy over 1999 nightclub shooting drops entertainer from the case August 7, 2008

Jennifer Lopez no longer has to appear at a deposition involving a woman who is suing Sean “Diddy” Combs for being shot in the face during the infamous 1999 nightclub shootout.

TMZ.com is reporting that Lopez was supposed to be deposed Wednesday in Natania Reuben’s $120 million suit against the rap mogul, who was dating J.Lo at the time of the shooting and was with her inside of the club when shots rang out. Diddy was acquitted of any wrongdoing.

The deposition has taken months and months to schedule, according to the Web site, and sources claim J.Lo has “nothing to contribute” to the case, which would explain why she has been removed from Reuben’s case.

“We’re also told that there’s no new date in sight — meaning Lopez may have dodged the bullet for good,” TMZ reported.
